8 Tips for Glowing Skin (even in winter!)

Would you like to have a healthy, glowing skin all year round? I do and I bet your answer is YES, too!

Despite what the beauty industry wants you to believe, great-looking skin is never a result of expensive skin care products. It’s a direct reflection of what is going on on the inside. What you eat, how you move and what you think all impact how your skin looks.
Today I am sharing how you can get on your way to beautiful skin all year round with these simple tips:

1. Drink plenty of water.
You’ve heard it before, but 80% of people are chronically dehydrated so it’s worth repeating. Not only is it easy, it’s the cheapest and the fastest way to improve your skin. Start every morning with 500ml of warm water with juice from ½ lemon or 1 teaspoon of raw apple cider vinegar. And make sure you drink at least 2 liters of warm, pure water every day. In winter, we spend a lot of time inside with central heating and dry air, which makes our skin dry and flaky. The more time you spend inside, the more you need to make sure you are hydrated. If it’s a challenge for you to drink a lot of water in winter, warm it up or add lemon and honey, which will also give you an extra detox kick.

2. Ease up on coffee & alcohol
Both coffee and alcohol are natural killers of beautiful skin. Start by replacing half of your coffee with matcha green tea and half of your alcohol with water. You’ll be surprised how different you look in just a couple of weeks.

3. Improve your digestion
This is the key to having good-looking skin. If your digestion is not optimal, no expensive products will have any long-lasting effects on your skin. Boost the amount of probiotic-rich foods in your diet such as sauerkraut, kombucha or water kefir. Good quality probiotics supplements can be used too but make sure you consult your doctor on any questions.

4. Ditch refined sugars
Instead of processed sugar, switch to healthier options such as fresh or frozen berries (blueberries and acai are amazing) that are full of antioxidants to fight free radicals responsible for aging. If you want sugar, use stevia or raw coconut nectar.

5. Feed your skin from the inside out
Put fresh green juices or smoothies on the menu. Green vegetable juices or smoothies are the easiest way to get big quantities of nutrients, vitamins and micronutrients into your body. Chlorophyll in leafy greens acts as a natural detoxifier and provides tons of nutrition with little effort. Use organic ingredients as much as possible, to help keep toxins out, not in. A great juice combination is cucumber, lemon, celery, appel, pear and kale or spinach. If you have burdock root, throw that in, too. 6. Add nourishing skin masks to your routine.
Avocado is a great ingredient for feeding skin. Mash ¼ very ripe avocado with 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of raw cacao until smooth. Apply with your fingers or a brush on a clean face, leave for 15 minutes, rinse with cool water and pat dry. Enjoy your natural glow.

7.  Get that beauty sleep!  Sleep is one of the best skin beautifiers out there.  You want to aim for at least 7 hours of sleep per night to see visible effects. Most of your body’s recovery and repair during sleep takes place between 9 p.m. and midnight, so it is important to go to bed on time.

8.  Feed your skin real skin food. If you cannot eat it, do not put it on your skin, either, this is really simple. Most conventional makeup and skincare products contain harmful chemicals that disrupt your body’s hormonal balance and tax it with additional toxins creating inflammation, fuelling allergies and skin outbreaks. Your skin is your largest organ and anything you apply to it gets absorbed into your bloodstream within 20 seconds. Choosing for organic, all-natural skincare products will provide your skin with real nutrition and make it look naturally beautiful.

So here you have it: beautiful skin all year round with these simple steps and without breaking your wallet.
